-introduction to returning lady golfers

-SGHS lady golfers season goals

-Coach McDaniel's philosophy and focus for this year

story by Kylor Plunk

The returning upperclassmen this year are Karlie Basler, Braeyln Palmer, Keeley Palmer, Lillian Holman, Eleanor McKlin, Linley Wehner, Allison Loudenback, Lilly K, and Lydia Vaeth.

All of these players have contributed in different ways to past victories. Karlie Basler and Eleanor McKlin were both all-district selections last year, earning them a trip to the state tournament. This season, they are eager to replicate that success and make another strong showing.

The team's goals for this season include shooting a 182 (+34) in a 9-hole match and a 385 (+93) in an 18-hole match. Additionally, they aim to maintain an average GPA of 3.5 and, most importantly, qualify for state. A lofty goal for any team and an excellent one to strive towards.

Coach McDaniel has been coaching for the last 10+ years, but has actually been teaching golf for over 17. Her coaching philosophy focuses on meeting players where they are and helping them become the best golfers they can be. Every golfer is unique, with different strengths and weaknesses. It's crucial to highlight their strengths and work on improving their weaknesses.

Understanding that progress is cyclical and that results aren't immediate is essential. While recognizing natural talent and ability is important, it's just as critical to praise progress and hard work.

During competitions, the program's philosophy emphasizes focusing on course management and the mental game, saving swing mechanics and technical adjustments for practice sessions. Their season begins this fall on Sept 3rd where they compete against Farmington. T-time starts off at 3:30 p.m. They will play at Crowne Point Golf Course.
