I’m here to talk about our Ste. Gen Dragon football team. Our team is packed with talented players and dedicated coaches, many of whom have been with us for over a decade. For most of our coaches, this is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity to teach kids that they have the potential to achieve their goals both on and off the field. Others simply love coaching and are committed to helping our players succeed in football and life.

One standout player this season is Jacob Schweigert. Jacob has been a key figure, setting the tone for our team. Every player on our roster brings unique strengths and skills that will undoubtedly be valuable in the future.

Coach Schwent:

"I had coaches in high school who significantly impacted who I am today. Not every student is fortunate enough to have a strong support system, and I feel like I can fill that role for some of them. Coaching also allows me to channel some of that competitive energy that I still have as I get older."

On the team dynamic:

"Every player has something they can do to impact the game, but Jacob Schweigert definitely sets the tone for everyone."

On this season's potential:

"I’m extremely excited to see what these guys can accomplish. The atmosphere at practice has been fantastic, and the team has been very coachable this year."

Coaching philosophy:

"Play hard and have fun."

Team focus this season:

"We’ve emphasized being unselfish and avoiding unnecessary penalties. Overall, we’re focused on playing a cleaner game this year."

Goals:

"Improve every week and win a district championship."

Coach Pope:

"Football has always been my passion—first as a player and now as a coach. It’s just a part of who I am."

On identifying impact players:

"It’s still early in the season, and our impact players can change from game to game depending on matchups. We hope every player makes an impact, whether it’s a big play during a game or hard work at practice."

On the upcoming season:

"Each season is unique, and I’m most looking forward to seeing the journey ahead for this group of seniors."

What makes high school football special:

"We always remind our players of what makes high school football so unique. At no other time in your life will thousands of people cheer for you and your friends. As we like to say, ‘When was the last time 1,000 people showed up to watch a student do a chemistry experiment?’"

Team development:

"Every season, every team has different strengths and weaknesses. The key is to keep developing players throughout the season and focus on the fundamentals that help us improve every day. Hopefully, this approach will help minimize our weaknesses."

Ultimate goal:

"Our main goal each year is to help these young men work together through adversity and build bonds that will last beyond football. In the end, we want them to graduate as successful young men ready for life after Ste. Gen High School."

As we look forward to the rest of the season, it's clear that our Ste. Gen Dragon football team is more than just a group of athletes—it’s a family. Whether it’s under the bright lights on Friday nights or in the quieter moments of practice, the Dragons are committed to giving their all. With every play, they’re not just building a winning season—they’re building character, resilience, and lifelong bonds. Here’s to a great season ahead—Go Dragons!
